For Love of the Color Pink

This post is purely self-indulgent, I must warn y’all before proceeding.

Below is an amalgamation of pictures taken during various times of the past year or so. As such, it is a shameless expression of my unadulterated love for the color pink and its various hues, shades and tones!

I have mentioned many times, in different real-life slambooks, online social networking sites and my gamut of personal webpages, that I love this color so much that people have started associating pink with me, especially at work.

For instance, whenever they see a dominantly pink PowerPoint presentation or marketing primer, there is an automatic assumption that I either (1) designed the material myself or (2) seduced the poor man who put it together in a UAE promotions firm to cater to my whims.

Old-Skool & N3W Pink
A combination of pink done the old-skool and technology-era ways! My favorite Party Princess notebook, which has drawings of a funky royal fairy girl and her equally stylish pooch, together with my metallic grey and pink mouse.

Funky Princess Pink
A glittery stationery bag featuring a gorgeous blonde Funky Princess illustration. Its inside also has pretty pink stenciled cloth lining. What’s more, it can fit two A5 notebooks!

Sporty Pink
Shi at Starbucks, Qurum City Centre, Oman, circa 2009. I am wearing my favorite Adidas goddess-tunic style top. It has two shades of peachy pink and has Clima-Lite material to ward off the desert heat.

Pink Adidas Cap
Shi at Starbucks (yet again, reiterating my love for Muscat coffee culture), Muscat City Centre, Oman, circa 2010. I have on my hot-pink Adidas baseball cap, newly bought for me by my baby from the Sun and Sand sports shop.

Brushy and Girly Gift Ideas

Last 7th September, the pre-teen daughter of a friend celebrated her birthday.

Because I adore her and immensely like her parents as well, I had to give this young girl gifts to remember me by before she and her family move on to another country in the next few months.

After going shopping (doubtless my most favorite chore in the whole wide world), I went home to pack up my girly goodies. Brushy wouldn’t just let me be and participated in the process!

Cool Brushy
Brushy looking cool, wearing his dad’s sunnies. When I got home, he looked like this. Don’t know how he convinced Peter to let him wear this precious fashion statement.

Brushy and the Girly Gifts
Brushy posing with the assortment of girly gift items freshly bought from the store.

Brushy in a Bag
Brushy wants to get into the hot-pink “Sweet” carrier bag. He looks picture-perfect, like he’s from a shop window!

Brushy and the Unicorn
Brushy prodding the glittery rainbow unicorn card, trying the make the mythical creature come to life.

Pink MotoRazr v3

Pink MotoRazr v3This cellular phone has been my fascination *ahem* obsession for quite some time now.

If you have known me – online or offline – for a while, you would know why.

Aside from the Pink MotoRazr v3‘s very stylish, sleek and handy design, my main and shameless reason for wanting this particular electronic toy is its very darling color.

As Christmas is just a few days away, I am sending out a sweet little call to Santa Baby. Oh yes, I have been nice for the most part, although being naughty at times when apropos comes with the territory of being me.

I have been scouting around the cellular phone shops in Muscat for the past month or so for the Pink Motorazr v3. I even have a copy of its gorgeous, glossy brochure! A couple of stores still have the unit in stock for the price of, give or take, 65 Omani Riyals (around 170 US Dollars at the current exchange rate).

The Muscat Day festivities will take place this coming January and there will pretty much be a city-wide sale. Hopefully, the phone will get a mark-down and yours truly will, finally, joyously, become a proud new owner!

Veronika Decides to Die

Veronika Decides to DieI finished Paulo Coelho’s Veronika Decides to Die last Sunday and found it fairly touching, with an ironic twist for the ending.

I first discovered Coelho’s works through the popularity of The Alchemist, which I subsequently bought and read voraciously. Veronika is the second book of this brilliant author in my collection.

I adored the character who became Veronika’s love interest: a rich, highly educated, schizophrenic music lover named Eduard, who also happens to be quite handsome. He sounds exactly like my kind of man.

Yesterday, I bought two “chick lit” paperbacks. This new inclination for such reading fare has, I believe, been indoctrinated into yours truly by the very charming Shophalic series penned by Sophie Kinsella.

My newly acquired tomes are Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes and The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. Right now, I am nearly 200 hundred pages into the former.

So sue me from being a pink-loving girly-girl.

Here is a summary of Veronika from Amazon.com:

The bestselling Brazilian author of The Alchemist delicately etches this morose but ultimately uplifting story of the suicidal Veronika, who creeps along the boundary between life and death, sanity and madness, happiness and despair.

Veronika, 24, works in a library in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and rents a room in a convent; she is an attractive woman with friends and family, but feelings of powerlessness and apathy tempt her to find “freedom” in an overdose of sleeping pills.

When Veronika awakens in the purgatory of Villete, the country’s famous lunatic asylum, she is told her suicide attempt weakened her heart and she has only days to live.

In a sedative-induced haze, Veronika finds companionship in white-haired Mari, who suffers from panic attacks, and Eduard, an ambassador’s son who has been diagnosed as schizophrenic, and she begins to question the definition of insanity.

It is her supposed death sentence from the devious Dr. Igor, who is trying to shock her back into reality, that allows Veronika to reacquire the will to live and love.
